Greyhound Adoptions Inspire UofA Professor On One of Cycling's Most Challenging Races

Eric PearceGreyhound dogs know a thing or two about speed. The spirit of these gentle and loyal dogs will be riding alongside Eric Pearce of Tucson as he tackles the demanding 930-mile Race Across America (RAW) 2019 Cycling Event in June.

Pearce, a Professor of Astronomy at the University of Arizona and competitive cyclist, selected Arizona Greyhound Rescue/Sol Dog Lodge as his charity partner for RAW 2019. He and his wife Cathy, who is his race Crew Chief, have two adopted greyhounds and are thrilled to support the dog community in Tucson through their RAW race participation.

"This is a way we can give back to the sport and the community, and use some of the energy and interest in our endeavor to benefit a cause that we believe in with the same passion that we compete with," says Pearce of the partnership.

Eric Pearce RAW TeamPearce hopes to help raise funds and support for AGR and The Lodge as he prepares for and takes part in the challenging three-plus day race. The course begins in Oceanside, CA on June 11, 2019 and ends in Durango, CO. It requires nearly constant cycling through four states across a diverse terrain.

Pearce hopes the physically and mentally challenging race will inspire spectators and participants alike to donate to AGR and Sol Dog Lodge. He has a link for donations to the AGR/Sol Dog Lodge Capital Campaign on his website at www.ecpearce.com. His training and the competition can also be followed on Facebook at facebook.com/pearceteamRAW2019. A complete list of Eric's social media links can be found below.

"AGR and Sol Dog Lodge are excited about this wonderful relationship and grateful to Eric for selecting us to be a part of his race across the west. We and all the greyhounds we have retrained and rehomed over the years are looking forward to cheering him on," says Mary Flores, Development Director of AGR/Sol Dog Lodge.

Donations to the AGR Capital Campaign can also be made at SolDogLodge.com or by contacting Shelley Harris at shelley@SolDogLodge.com.
