Luna, who was known as Tulip, when she first became an AGR dog, crossed the Rainbow Bridge last night.
She was only two years old.
She was a rebound back to AGR about a month ago and was found to have Lupus.
... Lupus attacks the immune system and views the total body as an "invader".
She was fostered and given extensive medical care, but the Lupus won out in the end.
She is now running free. Rest in peace Luna

Kristoff
Racing name Bella Unlimited
Born - January 14 2008 ~ Crossed the Bridge - August 28 2011
Kris was a handsome red fawn boy.
He ran 45 races during his racing career and won 8 of them.
Lucky for us, he became part of the AGR family on August 23rd.
He was happy when he entered his new home at the AGR kennel and hopped right up on his raised bed in his run.
I'm sure he thought, "now this is ok"!
He started limping after one of his exercise sessions and was taken to the vet. After xrays, his diagnosis pointed to valley fever, due to his young age.
He was fostered for a few days, until it was decided, he needed more pain management. He was taken back to the vet on Friday afternoon.
He was put on stronger pain meds.
This morning, his pain meds were finished and his pain returned.
He was no longer trying to use that leg.
At this point, it was determined he did not have valley fever and most likely osteosarcoma or bone cancer.
The decision was made to release him from his pain and end his suffering.
He was put to rest this morning and crossed the bridge.
He is now running with the angels.
Rest in peace Kris.

Oz was considered a special need hound when we adopted him in 2001 but he always had a sweet side. He crossed the bridge on August 3rd, 2011 at 11 years old and our home is certainly emptier without him. How could we ever forget his excited greetings when we came home or the way he jumped up for his biscuit before bed. We sure miss him.

Some of you have personally met my beautiful greyhound Argus Jethro Glenn (Gus to his friends) and some of you have only heard me talk about him but Gus has shared a journey with me for the past 8 years; however, Gus had to go on a journey by himself today. I am hoping that Bassie, Heathcliffe (his cat brothers) and his dad, John, will be there to show him around. While I was back visiting my grandchildren, Gus was diagnosed with intestinal cancer and my vet was just going to try and make Gus comfortable until I could get home. Well, I got home on the 11th of July and Gus seemed to rally and do quite well but his breathing got more shallow as I believe the cancer pushes his diaphragm out of the way and I could see the pain in his eyes. Because I will not put him on drugs that ruin his quality of life and I will not let him suffer, we made a trip to the vet this morning and my beautiful Gus went peacefully to sleep, away from his pain. And, while I have my friends, I no longer have my live-in companions and feel truly alone as I have not felt in a very long time. At any rate, while I am very sad to see him leave my side, I am at peace knowing that he will no longer struggle to breathe. He was 10 years, 8 months and 25 days old and I enjoyed having him in my life for 8 years, 8 months and 24 days. Be at peace, my pretty, precious, puppy and know that you were very loved in this life.

Our lovely Porter, whom we rescued as Gunther via AGR in 2002, went to the Rainbow Bridge last week. He was our Sweet P.--he loved everybody and everybody loved him. Couldn't have asked for a nicer boy. And smart as a whip, passing obedience class with flying colors (getting the concepts faster than most of the other dogs....) and completing agility class as well (never the weave poles, however, as it was always faster to just go around!) In fact, he was one of the interviewees for Brad Pritchett's video "The Adopter's Guide to Life with Greyhounds". We will miss our boy.

Hinley, best friend and most loyal companion of Lori Riegel passed to the Rainbow Bridge on October 15th, 2010 after reaching the age of 21 years in October. He was the best AGR small-dog tester for at least 8 foster-greys, and just had to roll his eyes each time Lori brought home yet another foster hound. Hinley taught both Bitsy and Maureen how to sit for a treat. He was always wise beyond his years and will be missed greatly by Lori, Logan, Maureen and Jeff. Hinley enjoyed watching CNN and looking out the window, even when he had to stand on a table to see out the window.

Our boy Gib crossed the bridge and we already miss him so much. Gib made such a difference in our family's lives. We are all better off for having him in our world; we learned so much from him. Goodbye my friend and I will see you on the other side. Gib celebrated his last week at Coronado Island dog beach hitting the waves.

Bob Dog—Beloved black and white hound of Chris and Denise Dunnigan Emmer, companion to Micha the Diva Hound, and friend to Turbot the cat. Just as bouncy and happy at 7 years old as he was at 13 mos., Bob was a sensitive guy who loved to play, loved his people and his tortillas! Play on, Bobby!

Toby came to us in June of 2003 and was a very shy boy. He loved to play with a few special toys; he would run around the yard with them in his mouth as if to say "come and play with me". He used to wear his super cape as he had thunder phobia; it worked well. Toby loved all of the foster girls and contributed much to their training. Toby crossed over Rainbow Bridge on April 26, 2008. He has been missed by Jacob, Molly, and us.

Charlie had more of an impact on my life than I ever could imagine. I am a better person because of him. He gave so much more than he took. His favorite activity was the sofa. He always had a gleam in his eye. People would comment on his calm and gentle demeanor. God made a special animal when he made Charlie. I loved him so much.

We fostered Skip. We try not to get attached and are usually successful. Skip was an exception. He was placed in a home but after two days they returned him; 20 minutes later Skip was back at my house and we adopted him. Skip died with no warning. He ran around the back yard like always, peed, and pooped. He walked into the living room, fell on the floor, and died. It was that quick. We only had him a few short months but we loved him.

Poseidon was a sweet and gentle giant, often described as a "hunk of love". He never met anyone he didn't like - or didn't want to lean against. It was love at first sight when we first met him when he was only two years old, and we only loved him more as we got to know his funny personality and his penchant for swiping food, toys, or whatever caught his eye and was within reach. His human family and his hound sister Yuma all miss him terribly. Poseidon was a true "ambassa-dog" for the greyhound breed. Rest in peace, our puppy Prince.

Maegan, 6.5 years, died from cancer.
You weren't supposed to leave this soon Our little girl prayed God would bless you The coldest, wettest nose that attacked And knew exactly where to poke a back I was going to take you to see your first snow You were going to watch my babies grow My beagle in a clever greyhound disguise Yelping about nail trims and being immunized The beautiful leap when you slipped out the door The speed of the chase has become family lore You never got to the race for which you were born But outran the Fords and laughed at the DMC horn You will not be a racing star, not this time But you were our greyt friend, and that was fine My beast, lay your sleek head on my hand This is your finish line, until we meet again.

Jan Friend to all (except cats)
Jan had a heart as big as his smile. In this photo he has the ecstatic expression he wore during VW bus rides or when offered a treat. He retired from racing at the advanced age of 5 and we shared 7 wonderful years together.

Missy Died 8/31/07

Three-year-old Missy (Messy) broke her leg and was euthanized by the powers that be at Tucson Greyhound Park. Kennel operator David Blair tried to save her but his efforts failed. She never had the chance to know about soft beds and human kindness.

Deputy was a 13 year old male discovered at PACC. He was probably hit by a car. Tamyra picked him up at PACC and took him to the kennel where David B. fed him a rotisserie chicken and chicken soup. Barb took Deputy home to care for him but he was too ill to save. He was a brave boy who touched our hearts in two days.

Bitsy became part of our family 7 years ago. She immediately made a place for herself as our pampered princess by sleeping in my bed every night, next to me and Hinley, schnauzer-terrier mix. She loved treats and loved going for walks around the Randolph Golf Course. She will be greatly missed and in my heart forever.

Essie Beloved 7 year old hound.
Essie had a big heart and it was that heart that ultimately failed her. Essie passed away peacefully on December 16. She would have been 8 on Valentine's Day. Her brother and sister spent a week looking for her before they accepted that she was gone. She will never be forgotten. Essie was a sweet soul who will always be in our hearts.

Baxter Beloved 13 year old hound of Jerry & Kathy Tucker
Baxter came into our lives 10 years ago after a racing career in Connecticut. Everyone who knew Baxter would comment on his regal, gentle bearing as Mr. Cool. Some likened him to John Wayne--a strong, reliable, caring soul, who loved life, people and other animals--but shy about letting others see his deep feelings. Baxter taught us many lessons on life and his memory lives on. He was our hero!

Aimee Beloved 10 1/2 year old girl of Debbie Merritt
Aimee loved to chase crows and squirrels. She would dig up the pecans that the squirrels had buried in the yard when she lived in Louisiana. A happy girl, Aimee loved to sunbathe and then cool off in any puddle of water she could find. She is still very much loved and very much missed.

Daphne will be remembered by all who were lucky enough to know her. At a young 18 months she retired from the track. Before finding her forever home, she experienced severe intestinal problems causing extreme diarrhea and weight loss. When she lost interest in trying to steal bagels from the vet hospital staff and couldn’t withstand another surgery, she was put to rest at a mere 35 pounds. She was a courageous lovable hound who will be in our hearts forever.

On September 15th Bessie crossed over the Rainbow Bridge. Bessie has been a family member and companion of Kathy, Jerry, Tucker, Baxter (Greyhound) and Bubba (the parrot) since September 1994. She was only 18 months old when she arrived but she has changed our lives forever. A peaceful, fun loving and joyful little girl who will be missed greatly, but the memories of how she enriched and changed our lives will live forever. She loved walks, sniffing flowers and cuddling. But most of all she loved being with her family and people. Everyone who knew her will miss her sweetness.

Sabrina Beloved hound of Lorie Anderson and Mike Caballero While every dog is part of the family, it seems that Sabrina (Sarobie) took extra care in taking on the role of friend, snuggle buddy and bed warmer, party hostess, and co-conspirator in snack sneaking. We have been left with a great void that memories of her and her bonds with our family and friends can only hope to fill.

Barry Sweet 2-year-old boy whose life touched many; he never went to a forever home because he spent so much time at the animal hospital. With the kindness of Laura Hulse, foster mom, he was able to get a taste of the good life and spent time with hounds and kitties until following the warm light to the Rainbow Bridge.

Angel – Beloved guinea pig belonging to the Althof family. Angel belonged to our oldest daughter. Angel was given to her as a birthday present in the fifth grade; she is a sophomore this year. Treating a guinea pig can be expensive and not very effective so we opted to keep her comfortable at home until the end. Angel died October 10, 2006 cuddled in my daughter's arms.
