Riley
Born: Jan/2009 Color: Black Gender: Female Housing: Foster Cats: No Small Dogs: No Status: Available FOSTER UPDATE: Riley is an affectionate dog with a dash of sassy. She is at ease with both males and females - and likes children. Riley has learned to use a doggie door and can entertain herself with squeaky toys that she carries around the home in her mouth. She also enjoys cooling her tummy on the top step of the pool. Riley will growl or bark at other dogs if they approach her too quickly but she gets along well with her two greyhound roommates and two temporary greyhound visitors. Riley is a talker and whines when she sees other dogs across the street or behind fences. She is not the least shy and can handle being alone for a short while without becoming anxious. Unexpected and unfamiliar activity like a bouncing basketball or quick movements above or around her sometimes make her a little skittish. Riley has a high prey drive and cannot live with small dogs or cats.

Vana
Born: Aug/2005 Color: Black Gender: Female Housing: Foster Cats: No Small Dogs: N/A Status: Adopt Home Trial FOSTER UPDATE: Vana was a scared pooch when she first came to AGR. Now in foster, Vana is gradually learning that the outside world can be exciting and fun. She is living with two other greys and enjoys being one of the pack: she’s not an alpha dog. Vana remains shy but quiet, gentle reassurance will help her overcome her shyness. She is house trained without a doggie door. There have been no accidents or incidents of destruction in the house. Vana is not to be crated. When the vacuum is dragged out, Vana and her greyhound roommates disappear. Loud noises still scare her and she is not thrilled with ceiling fans, but has adjusted to them. Vana is healthy and eats well; no foods seem to upset her tummy. While still timid, Vana is not beyond countersurfing: she recently swiped a cooked chicken breast off the counter! As soon as she’s a little more confident with the world around her, Vana will make the perfect fur companion for the right person/people.

Reba
Born: Jan/2009 Color: White with black spots Gender: Female Housing: Foster Cats: N/A Small Dogs: N/A Status: Available FOSTER UPDATE: Reba is adorable and a quick learner, so says her foster mom. She’s cute and definitely still has some puppy energy and mannerisms. Her favorite toy is a blue ball with a squeaker that she carries around in her mouth. She’s not shy and can be left alone for a while without any major repercussions. She rides well in the car, barks moderately, and is practically house trained using a doggie door. Reba loves her walks but still pulls a little on the leash. She loves food, so she should be easy to train using food as the motivator. Reba does not tolerate crating! She does have allergies, which seem to include wheat and environmental triggers, so she takes a daily antihistamine. Reba knows her name, comes when called, and responds to commands, “Go make” and “Go lay down.” This cute bundle can climb like a monkey, so potential adopters be warned; hide your sponges and don’t leave anything on the stove or countertops!

Hailey
Born: Jan/2003 Color: Black Gender: Female Housing: Foster Cats: No Small Dogs: No Status: Available FOSTER UPDATE: Hailey is a loving and energetic lab mix who would make an excellent only dog. She is house-trained with a dog door and does not show signs of separation anxiety when left alone. Hailey has now gone through six weeks of doggie class and has shown great strength in agility training and obedience. We are still working on her social skills, as she does not get along well with other dogs. Hailey wishes her foster mom would let her on the couch and sometimes sneaks up when no one's home. When the keys turn in the lock, she rushes to her bed to snatch up a toy for play. She will play fetch, tug of war, and chase. She walks well on the leash with occasional pulling. also is a great running and hiking buddy. Hailey loves apples and has a hearty appetite. She obeys the commands sit, stay, down, off, go lay down, and heel.

Kent
Born: Jan/2009 Color: Red Gender: Male Housing: Foster Cats: No Small Dogs: No Status: Adopt Home Trial FOSTER UPDATE: Kent is an exuberant greeter when his foster mom returns from work. He loves toys and, like his foster friend Reba, has his favorite. Kent is an affable, affectionate hound, not the least shy with people, and he is not bothered by loud noises. He loves to ride in the car, standing the entire time, barks moderately, and enjoys his walks although he pulls on the leash. Kent is healthy, has a good appetite but does not care for raw veggies like his doggie roommates. His foster mom is currently working on house training, as she doesn’t have a doggie door. Kent is not crated. He is easy to handle when it’s time for grooming. He knows his name, comes when called, and obeys the commands, “Go make” and “Go lay down.” Kent is an easy dog and super enthusiastic about everything. Not to mention he’s handsome!

Mac
Born: Feb/2010 Color: Black Gender: Male Housing: Foster Cats: N/A Small Dogs: Yes Status: Available I’m Mac. A medium-size ebony male heartthrob with a stroke of white on my chest. I’m tall and lean and some call me Cowboy. I’ve been voted the official greyhound greeter at the kennel. The other breeds are so vocal it’s tough to get a bark in cage-wise! As my bark splits logs floating down the river, my kennel mates selected me to represent our breed. I do a good job, just ask the volunteer that came to interview me this morning. I did my usual barking routine until she said, “Mac, enough, knock it off.” Knock if off, I was just getting started. I thought she didn’t like me, but then she tickled my ears and kissed me on the nose. Oh boy, I want more of that. So a home that shows affection is a ‘must have’ for this hoped-to-be pampered greyhound.

Ria
Born: Apr/2004 Color: Black Gender: Female Housing: Foster Cats: With Work Small Dogs: N/A Status: Available I’m a former brood Mom called Ria. I’ve just discovered toys and I’m over the moon. I could spend hours alone playing with those things. I was a good mom but, as the Lebanese philosopher Kahlil Gibran pointed out, I was merely the bow from which my living puppies were sent forth. I get it. I did my bit. They’re gone. Now it’s time for Mama to party. I’m very much like my sister Heather – she’s now in foster. We love to play, are very affectionate and gentle and adore cuddles. We both want to live with an amicable male greyhound, or two, as we’re big fans of ‘knights in shining armor!’ After all, you never know when a lady greyhound might need a little rescuing – not every pooch likes spiders! Female greyhounds – just like people - have secret femme fatal qualities that we draw upon when necessary. Please! We know how to bat our eyelashes to make the males do our bidding, and they love it!

Ebony
Born: Jul/2010 Color: Black Gender: Female Housing: Kennel Cats: No Small Dogs: N/A Status: Adopt Home Trial I’m petite, bouncy and sassy and my name is Ebony. Unless you’re a dunderhead, and obviously, you’re not because you’re cruising this website, you’ve already fathomed out that I’m a black fox with two white snow wheels on the back end of my chassis. I love to play and I can outfox any breed at navigation strategy, thanks to my rear snow wheels. I can skid to a stop or turn on a dog biscuit before your computer can download emails. Eat your heart out Bill Gates! Just a minute, incoming call. . . Oh, hi Bill. No of course not, I was just joshing around. No, no need for lawyers. Only a dunderhead would think that a couch potato could out-run a computer application. Phew!

Tony
Born: Oct/2009 Color: Brindle Gender: Male Housing: Foster Cats: No Small Dogs: No Status: Available Soon My name is Tony. I’m a small, light brindle male that’s dashingly handsome and nimble. You should see me play chase, throw and catch. I’m a master at the game, zig zagging hither and thither to snag the prize. No more running in circles for this greyhound - thank you very much. It’s enough to give a guy a headache. I’m drooling over all the affection I get at the kennel, but can’t wait to find a crib of my own. It would be great to have a doggie companion. Doesn’t have to be a greyhound. I’m no snob. I’ll exchange butt sniffing with all breeds, although there is something special about a greyhound. Once you’ve lived with us, you can’t live without us.

Eclipse
Born: Jan/2010 Color: Black Gender: Male Housing: Foster Cats: N/A Small Dogs: Yes Status: Available My name is Eclipse. I’m looking for a new profession now that I’ve retired from racing. I was thinking of tossing my tail into the political arena but was told that I lack the necessary experience, never having been a Governor of a state, and all. During my one and only speech, someone asked me, “How would you create jobs?” I said that I would convert certain sporting arenas around the country into manufacturing plants for doggie beds and squeaky toys. No applause, much laughter, and I wasn’t invited back. Then I received a call from Alaska. The lady said, “Silly boy. Don’t run for office. Spruce up your appearance, make speeches, write books and get your own reality show - that will bring in the dollars.” Now there’s a thought.
