Megan

Born: Jan/2007
Color: Brindle
Gender: Female
Housing: Foster
Cats: No
Small Dogs: No
Status: Available

FOSTER UPDATE: Answering to Maggie, [Megan] comes when called, loves attention and praise and likes to be first at petting time. When confronted with something new, Maggie needs encouragement to boost her confidence. She loves people & kids, but is learning not to jump with her excitement.  Maggie is not small dog/animal compatible. She is cautious about loud noises but does not run away. Maggie has embraced car rides, barks moderately, and is house trained using a doggie door. She is not crated. While walking zig zag style, she does not pull on the leash. Alert at the sight of rabbits, a firm yank on the leash and the command ‘leave it’ brings her into line. Maggie is open to grooming but cleaning the ears needs work. She would do best in a home where people are around frequently or she has another dog for companionship.

Ginger

Ginger

Born: Dec/2003
Color: Brindle
Gender: Female
Housing: Foster
Cats: No
Small Dogs: No
Status: Available

FOSTER UPDATE: Ginger is charming, independent and affectionate, but not needy. This is a happy tail wagger that gives kisses. She’s experienced in home living and is thoroughly house trained in all respects. Initially shy with new people, Ginger warms up when she gets to know them. No fear of vacuums, cars or loud noises and she barks very little. Ginger enjoys car rides and daily walks, but zig zags, so she’s walked using a harness. She can be left alone for a few hours without becoming anxious. Ginger responds to her name and obeys the commands: ‘lay down,’ ‘out,’ ‘no,’ ‘wait’ and ‘stop.’ Ginger is in good physical health, no foods seem to bother her, and she tolerates grooming without fuss. She would do well as an only dog or with another calm dog.

Iron

Iron

Born: Sep/2007
Color: Black
Gender: Male
Housing: Foster
Cats: Yes
Small Dogs: No
Status: Available

FOSTER UPDATE: Iron is a charmer. Always happy and affectionate, he greets his foster mom at the door. Iron is practically house broken and is not destructive in the home when left alone for a few hours. He has mastered the joys of playing with toys and sometimes, when mom returns home, she finds a toy on the couch. Mm, wonder how that got there? When doggie sat by his foster aunt and three other dogs, no growling from Iron when it’s time for chow. He walks well on the leash but is always on the lookout for desert critters he’d like to chase. He gets along with other dogs at the doggie park and, with supervision, is cat tolerant. Iron attended Career Day at a local elementary school and was a huge hit with the kids. He would do well in a home with kids and another dog for furry companionship.

My name is Aiden. I’m new to the Greyt Hacienda and I’m still getting into the ‘wagging’ of things around here. At first I was a little shy and mistrustful of people ‘cos I’m still a pup, but no more. Now I love greeting the volunteers in the morning, getting pampered, and running with my buddy Troy. I’m a medium light brindle boy and, I’m told, very handsome. I’m ready to be a couch potato so I checked out several furniture store websites. I really like Copenhagen leather couches, but Troy tells me that those are reserved for people, not pooches, because our nails would scratch the leather. Hey, hasn’t anyone heard of couch booties for us greys?  Now that I’m retired, perhaps I could start a greyhound bootie business. Me wearing couch booties would be on all the marketing brochures. What fun. Are you up to the task?

Born: Jan/2006
Color: Brindle
Gender: Male
Housing: Foster
Cats: Yes
Small Dogs: N/A

My racing days are behind me and I’m free to find a permanent home. I’m Troy, a medium size red brindle boy. I tried to register with Facebook, but they kept asking me for a password. Racers don’t allow passes – we need to stay out front – so this was really confusing. Then someone told me about Twitter – I thought that’s what our feathered friends do; yet more confusion. I’m sticking to email and my cell phone to get out the word that I’m here, available, and can move in any time. I’ve been neutered and had my teeth cleaned, so no doggie breath here. I’m also micro chipped so should I escape from your yard, you have a better chance of bringing me home, but I’m sure you would make sure this would not happen. Greyhounds are special and need to be cherished – and I’m one cherishable hound!

Mandi

Mandi

Born: Jun/2006
Color: Red Brindle
Gender: Female
Housing: Foster
Cats: Yes
Small Dogs: Yes
Status: Adopt Home Trial

FOSTER UPDATE: Sweet Mandi is nicely settled in her foster home. She tries to play with the family cat but kitty is not particularly responsive. Mandi is not shy around people or other dogs and doesn’t whine or get upset when left alone for a few hours. Mandi is crated for no more than two hours a day and naps or sleeps in the crate at night with the door open. Her favorite game is to transport toys from one room to another, then pile them up in her crate, and lie on them. Mandi is healthy, rides well in the car, ignores loud or unusual noises, and barks very little. She is housetrained without a doggie door. Walking is her time to explore the world and her inquisitive nature makes her pull on the leash, but this will pass. She knows her name and the commands, ‘lie down’ and ‘leave it.’

Max

Max

Born: Oct/2007
Color: Dark Brindle
Gender: Male
Housing: Foster
Cats: No
Small Dogs: N/A
Status: Available

FOSTER UPDATE: Max is a young, loving, sociable dog. He will occasionally growl if he thinks his bully stick is about to be snatched, or another dog hovers while he’s eating. Max walks well on the leash, uses a doggie door, but occasional accidents occur. This greyhound shows no signs of aggression to people or other dogs. Thunder storms and other unusual noises do not disturb this boy, and he can be left alone with his doggie companions without becoming anxious or destructive. Max enjoys his walks and car rides. He is crated for two hours a day and accepts his temporary confinement. No food issues have been noted, his appetite is normal, and he’s in good health.  Max is not resistant to a grooming regime. He knows his name and comes when called. Max would do best in a home without small children or cats. He’s not cat friendly.

Greetings World. My name is Andy. I’m a handsome large brindle male that’s looking to join a soccer team. No other greyhound is as nimble as I when it comes to scooting, retrieving and tossing that Kong around the play area. Watch out Mr. Beckham, I’m on your tail and, with the right contacts, I could replace you. Well, a greyhound can dream, right? Playing with Kongs and toys is now an obsession when I’m let out into the play area at the kennel. I don’t need a partner; I’m very happy playing all by myself, so I’m a low maintenance hound in the entertainment department. But I do need to partner up with a special someone that loves me to pieces and will take me on long daily walks in the cool of the day. After all, a budding soccer star needs all the exercise he can get, right?

Hello Tucson. I’m Dibby – a small red fawn female greyhound seeking a permanent place where I can hang my leash, relax, and know that I’m loved. I’m recently retired from racing and looked into how much I would get each month in retirement benefits ‘cos I thought a trip to the Caribbean would be awesome. I was told that my retirement benefits would come from someone who would take me home and treat me like a princess. Oh my – I’m up for that – will I get to wear a tiara? Do they make bling for us retired racers? I’m waiting patiently for that special person who will meet me and know that their life is not complete without Dibby. I’m a low maintenance gal. Lots of toys, a couple of doggie beds embroidered with my name, and regular daily walks are all I need to be one happy fur companion.

I’m a small, sweet natured gal that goes by the name of Four. I’m four retirement from racing. I’m four soft, plush doggie beds. I’m four playing with squeaky toys. I’m four nutritional kibble and bully sticks to keep my teeth sparkling and my gums healthy. And most of all, I’m four living with a family that shows me affection and let’s me know that I’m an important member of the family. I’m a gorgeous red fawn gal that, while not conceited, does not believe in being humble about my many attributes. I passed the cat testing with flying colors ‘cos I believe that canines and felines can live together in harmony, as long as kitty doesn’t eat out of my bowl. So if you’re four adopting a retired racing greyhound that needs to be loved and coddled, I’m your pooch. I will be your four-ever grateful fur companion.
Lyla

Lyla

Born: Dec/2007
Color: Black
Gender: Female
Housing: Foster
Cats: Yes
Small Dogs: N/A
Status: Available
Lyla is rapidly learning house manners in her foster home. She is housetrained without a doggie door, walks well on the leash, is well behaved in the home, and can be left alone for a few hours without any accidents or getting into mischief. Once Lyla knows you, she will lick your hand and accept petting, but at first she’s rather shy. Lyla gets along well with people and other dogs. She is cat and small dog tolerant.  She doesn’t bark, prefers women over men, and does well with young children. Lyla has a good appetite and is not picky about her food. Loud noises startle her but she will adjust with time. She has learned to stay away from the pool and the hot tub. Her foster Mom will start training on basic commands soon. Lyla would do best in a home with another dog of any breed.

You will never meet an ugly greyhound. It’s just not possible. Greyhounds are elegant and unique and some have distinctive markings. Roll the drums – here I am. I’m Rachel, a white female with brindle markings. Even one of my eyes is brindle, so you can’t mistake me for any other hound when we romp at the doggie park. I’m an easy-going gal that enjoys affection. I’m learning to play with toys – WOW – what a blast. I never imagined how great life would be after racing, but I’m getting into the swing. I’m an affable gal that went through cat testing with no problem. Sure, they smell different to greyhounds, but if they don’t bother me, I don’t intend to mess with them. Perhaps we could play hide and seek around your couch – ya think? I just need a home with people who will love and take good care of me.
Sammie

Sammie

Born: May/2004
Color: Fawn
Gender: Male
Housing: Foster
Cats: Yes
Small Dogs: Yes
Status: Adoption Pending

Sammie is a beautiful fawn with a black mask. He is 6 years old. Sammie is a very shy, sensitive boy and is easily startled. You must never raise your voice at him. He must go to a quiet and gentle home. When he is stress, he withdrawals, has GI upset and reverts to his pre-adoptive kennel behavior. Sammie would do best with another greyhound in the house. He is currently enjoying his two foster greyhound sisters. He enjoys rice, chicken and green beans. He loves his large stuffed animals and is not much of a chewer. He enjoys hide and seek with you. He sleeps on the bed, but will not get up on the sofa or chairs. He knows the commands “go lay down” and “go potty." He is learning the use of a doggie door. His ears perk up when he sees rabbits or lizards on his walk. He pulls slightly on the leash.

My name is Josh.  I’m a large black male that barks a lot when I first meet you, but once I get a good sniff and we’ve become acquainted, I settle down. I think I would have made a great motivational speaker but my owner had me pegged for a different track. What a bore; chasing that artificial lure in a circle night after night. But those days are over. I’m free to find a home where my barking could be a definite plus when someone arrives at your door. I will be your security alert system inside the home. If you need a watch dog outside the home, this is not in a greyhound’s dog description. We are inside fur companions with a touch of attitude when the door bell rings. I like people and other large dogs, but I’m not cat tolerant. Do you have room for me?

If you like handsome ‘big boys’ I’m right up your alley. My name is Marvin. I’m a golden brindle with a calm disposition. I get along well with people and other dogs, but I’ve yet to be cat tested so I don’t know whether I’m compatible with kitties. I sure love romping with toys and will retrieve as many times as you can toss. I know I would enjoy going to a safe doggie park to chase around with other dogs, but a long daily walk with you would also be great. I’m learning to enjoy being cuddled and kissed and would like this to continue when you take me home. I can’t wait to sink into a plush doggie bed that’s all mine, preferably where you sleep, ‘cos I’ll be the family companion. Squishy, floppy toys would be appreciated to keep me occupied when you’re busy doing ‘people stuff.’
Bailey

Bailey

Born: Sep/2006
Color: White/Black
Gender: Male
Housing: Foster
Cats: Yes
Small Dogs: No
Status: Available

FOSTER UPDATE: Overcoming his initial shyness, Bailey has morphed into an exuberant greeter, rolling back his upper lip and chattering his teeth, a typical greyhound greeting. Bailey is good with children but jumps when excited, so he could topple a toddler. He has shown no fear of the vacuum, traffic, or other loud noises. Bailey walks well on the leash, loves to be outside, and now enjoys his car rides without flinging drool. He is mostly housebroken but will have accidents if one of his potty times is missed. He is crated when his fosters are absent, and frequently voluntarily sleeps in his open crate at night. Gentle grooming has not been a problem, and he tolerates being bathed in the tub. He responds to his name and the commands ‘down’ ‘come’ and ‘stay.’ Bailey gives kisses, enjoys belly rubs, and prefers to ‘moonwalk’ backwards when he wants to change direction.

Mojo

Mojo

Born: Sep/2006
Color: Brindle
Gender: Male
Housing: Foster
Cats: With Work
Small Dogs: No
Status: Available
Mojo is a laid back pooch that does best with people and dogs at his same energy level. He follows instructions, does not get on furniture, and retreats to his doggie bed on command. Mojo is house trained using a doggie door. He walks well on the leash but, due to a racing injury, two 20-minute walks daily meet his exercise needs. Mojo needs a yard just big enough to play with squeaky toys. Mojo has learned to live harmoniously with 4 cats, one male greyhound and two female whippets although, as a safety precaution, dogs and cats are separated during the fosters’ absence from the home. Mojo appears fine with kids as he generally ignores them. Sleep aggression has not been an issue and Mojo willingly accepts grooming. Mojo needs a calm home with a doggie bed in each room so he can always be with his people.
