Track Closures
While we are happy to report the gratifying truth that many tracks have been closing throughout the country, and are continuing to close, the stories surrounding them are fluctuating between truth and sensationalism. Arizona Greyhound Rescue's mission, vision, and guidelines are clearly stated. We are standing behind them, and will continue to stand behind them, while this long awaited 'beginning towards the end of racing' unfolds before us.
Closer to home, we are experiencing a much higher rate of greyhounds being retired in Tucson as the Phoenix track has been preparing for its closure and as they continue to move dogs here as well as to neighboring states. With the help of volunteers and advocates throughout both Tucson and the southwest region, Arizona Greyhound Rescue has been committed, and will remain committed, in ensuring the displaced dogs are finding their ways into other rescue groups as well as ours.
Our local goal of placing 50 greyhounds in a foster or adoptive home by January 15, 2010 was successful! We not only met our goal, but we even surpassed it by a hound or two! For that, we have YOU to thank! With your dedication, we are making huge strides as our community learns of both the immediate and long term plights the dogs endure. Please, continue to join us in our efforts to place the retired, displaced greyhounds who are awaiting forever homes now, and those who will be awaiting forever homes in the future, by advocating, adopting, fostering, volunteering, and donating. The lives you save will be forever thankful.
Foster homes needed!
Arizona Greyhound Rescue has an ongoing need of foster homes for our hounds while they await adoption. Watching a greyhound blossom during this transitional phase is a beautiful thing. The more dogs that go into foster, the more dogs that get saved from unknown fates at the race track.
Can you foster?
