Nate
"Peace to the Nation" was my racing name. Pretty snazzy, but hard to say if you're chewing gum,
so I was renamed Nate. I'm three years old, a medium size male with a striking red coat and
gorgeous brown eyes, and my ears are a sight to behold, don't you think?
I'm looking for a companion who will
take good care of me, give me loads of affection, and make sure I get my daily walk.
I'm very smart so I will quickly learn what's mine and what's yours. A couple of cozy doggie beds,
a few toys, premium chow, and we're in business.
FOSTER UPDATE: Nate is becoming more and more playful. He loves playing with other dogs at the dog
park and would very much enjoy at playmate at home. Nate is a joy to have around.

Johnny B
FOSTER UPDATE: Johnny B is affectionate and can be "puppy" energetic, especially
first thing in the morning. He is very intelligent and will most likely be easy to train.
He is very inquisitive. He plays well with our other dog, but doesn't seem to need to be with her.
Johnny B would do well in a home with other greys or by himself.
He really likes my teenage daughter. Johnny has taken to home life very well.
He loves being outside and would enjoy a yard to play and relax in.

Kahuna
Yes, I am the big Kahuna and one of the friendliest greyhounds you'll meet. A Kahuna is a
Hawaiian priest or healer. Well, that's not me.
Rather, I'm a large goof ball that enjoys meeting people, schmoozing and socializing.
At the end of each day, I dream of curling
up on a plush doggie bed and being told that I'm the best thing that happened to my new
found caretaker. If you like being schmoozed and enjoy cold nose nuzzles, then I'm the guy for you.
UPDATE: Kahuna is now in foster care learning to respect a cat, so we're
adjusting his cat status to "with work".
FOSTER UPDATE: Kahuna is a big, happy boy. The first thing you'll notice about the big Kahuna are his ears!
He has these big floppy ears that are usually never going in the same direction.
Kahuna is such a wonderful dog. He is smart and easily trainable, he is such a 'people dog',
so he would do best in a home that has time to spend with him, or other dogs
[preferably greyhounds?] if owners work.
I have to say he is just one of those dogs that we have fallen in love with.
He has definitely found 'home life' very much to his liking.
He loves his pillows, has discovered the joy of 'squeaky toys',
plays with the kids & dogs, and will gladly roll over so you can rub his belly.

Hobo
I'm a tiger-striped boy but they called me Hobo. In England, a hobo is a drifter that
wanders from place to place without a permanent home. I don't want to be a Hobo.
I want to become a permanent fixture in a home with people that will take good
care of me so that I can remain with them for a long time as their faithful companion.
I'm still a pup with much to learn about the world outside of racing, and I can't wait
to begin my lessons. If you're ready to instruct this pup into the ways of home living

Cameron
My racing life is over and I'm looking forward to retirement, relaxing in a
cozy home with cozy folks. I'm Cameron - a good Scottish name. Although I never
raced in Scotland, I know I would enjoy running free in the highlands. But I'm
in Tucson, and running free off the leash in the desert would mean that I could
return to you wearing a garland of cacti - ouch! My kennel mates tell me that
'retirement' means soft doggie beds, loads of toys, premium kibble and, most importantly,
people that will love and care for me. This sounds delicious and I can't wait to
meet that special person who knows that I'm better than Haggis.
FOSTER UPDATE: Cameron is a very sweet dog with a playful side. She has big brown eyes and
knows how to get attention. She would do very well in a house with another dog.
She will make an excellent pet. She has learned what home
life is all about quickly and is ready to begin her new life with her forever family.

Artemus
Bodacious and magnificent - that's me. I'm ARTEMUS. When I'm let out of my cage to run,
I hop like a Kangaroo - can't help it - must be in the genes - perhaps relatives in
Aussie land? As you can see from my picture, I'm a muscular hound with lots of
energy looking for a family that likes to play and enjoys walking me once or
twice a day, or taking me to the doggie park to show off my hopping skills.
I can guarantee that there won't be any other dog at the park that can mimic my antics.
You will be the proud companion of the Kangaroo kid. While I haven't received much
affection in my life, the pets and cuddles from the volunteers at the kennel make me
yearn for more, more, more.

Mancini
I'm MANCINI and when I dance in my cage to the music at the kennel, boy, do I have rhythm.
I'm playful and energetic but I have a mellow side and like to relax
and be stroked and told I'm a handsome, good boy. Sprinting for fun
at the kennel is a blast: no more worries if I don't bring home the winning purse!
My kennel mates have clued me in that people in Southern Arizona
have opened their hearts to greyhounds that only want to be loved
and cared for and become part of a family. This sounds like heaven.
If my special someone is reading this, please come visit me at the kennel and take me home.

Spats
I should have been born in the 1920's when spats were all the rage for the sporting gentlemen.
Thanks to me, spats are back and in Tucson, and I have four white ankles to prove it.
What's my name? What else - SPATS. I'm a large, gorgeous large male with magnificent
markings. I now this sounds conceited, but someone at the kennel this morning told me,
honey, if you've got it flaunt it, so I do. I have a loving disposition and get a
little excited and jump when first let out of my cage to run at the kennel,
but I quickly settle down with a gentle hand and firm voice.
I've heard about meeting people at the pet stores and can't wait to check out all the goodies,
especially the plump doggie beds and toys. So here's the deal.
You walk me regularly, love me to pieces, and I'll snuggle with you
on the couch where we can watch old movies together and I can check out those spats.

Blackjack
My name is Blackjack. I'm a large affectionate fur ball who loves attention.
They call me the lover boy as I will lean against you for extra cuddles.
I know how to play catch with a squeaky toy.
You throw, I retrieve. Eat your heart out all you Goldens out there, I can play this game
much faster than you! I'm out of the puppy stage but I'm still bouncy and playful,
so I need someone that likes to walk me every day and play catch with me in the back yard,
or the doggie park. If you love to visit Vegas, perhaps a four legged companion called
Blackjack for good luck is the perfect pooch for you.
FOSTER UPDATE: Blackjack is a love hound and will make a great addition to any family that
loves dogs. He is smart, gentle, and fun to have around. He is the first greyhound
we have fostered that likes to play fetch.

Percy
Recently retired from racing, I tried to sign up for social security but was denied.
Can you believe that? I was told by a lady over the phone that I wasn't eligible because
I hadn't worked enough years. I tried to change her mind with a few gruff barks,
and she hung up on me. How rude. I'm Percy and I'm a new arrival at the kennel.
I felt rather foolish when my kennel mates laughed at my story, but felt so much
better when they told me that social security for greyhounds was living in a home
with people that cared about my welfare. They would feed me premium chow, take me
for walks or romps at the doggie park, load me up with squeaky toys, and would give me
loads of affection. Now that's more like it. I'm rather a large guy but I know I would
fit nicely on one of those doggie beds I've heard about.

Mai
Hello Tucson. I'm Mai, and my twin sister pictured below is Tai. We call ourselves the
Polynesian Poppets. We're sleek, dainty gold/blonde brindles, very loveable, and a
little mischievous. We are energetic and looking for a family with a large back
yard where we can run and enjoy playing throw and catch with squeaky toys.
As we both have a high prey drive, living with kitties or small dogs would not be a good idea.
Those extra calories we don't need. We're seeking a home with adults and
older children who will welcome us as additional kids. In this type of environment,
we'll blossom and mature and be your ever-loving family companion.
Personally, I think I'm cuter than Tai, so please

so if you want a greyhound with unique markings and a loving personality, forget Mai and

Cher
Hello everyone. I'm Cher. While I can certainly ROO, I don't sing or don exquisite gowns
and tour Vegas, but I do have lovely black fur that gleams when someone cares enough
to brush me regularly. I'm a little shy as I'm new to the kennel, but I'm getting
adjusted to my surroundings. The turnout ladies gave me lots of affection today and
I sure liked being petted and told I'm pretty. It's so nice to be stroked and kissed on the nose.
You should try it. I like being around people and know that I would fit in well with a
family that wants to share their home with Cher.

Bono
Bono (as in U2, not Sonny) is my name and I'm a large, handsome, energetic male that loves to run and play.
I'm a little boisterous when first let out of my 'condo' but after ten minutes in the sprint run,
I'm spent. I'm looking for a family that enjoys a daily walk with a greyhound buddy.
As I'm a big boy, I would need a large doggie bed right next to your bed 'cos I know that you
will want me close to you. Some soft squeaky toys to toss around in the back yard would be great.
I'm smart and will fathom out PDQ what is mine and what not to mess with if my new family is
willing to take the time train me in home living.

So my racing days are over, but my days on the couch are fast approaching - right?

Karma
Hi, I'm Karma. Was I a racing greyhound in my last life?
Who knows - perhaps I was a giraffe? But I'm sure here now and
looking for a family that enjoys an affectionate, energetic pooch.
I'm a small female with a rich ebony fur coat that gleams in
the sun's rays. I was so busy playing 'catch the ball' this
morning with the turnout lady that I nearly forgot my running
mate in the next sprint run. He was not pleased.
Patience is not his thing - probably has no clue how to spell it -
but I sure beat his butt at the sprint game once I got going.
One up for me. Woo Hoo! I like people, love to be cuddled and
dream about a home of my own with people that will love and
care for me. If you like to play 'throw and catch' I'm the gal for you.

Lennon
When the turnout lady saw my name - Lennon - she immediately ran down memory
lane and called me 'Hey Dude.' I guess it was one of her favorite songs. Get it?
I'm a large male dark brindle with white feet. I'm very strong,
energetic and in great shape. As I tore my stoppers during one
of my recent sprints, today, I was reduced to a walk.
Not happy about that, I twirled and pranced on the leash
until I heard, "Listen you rascal, if you don't settle down,
this walk is going to be very short." I got the message.
Boy, is she tough, but once I settled down I was given
lots of pets and cuddles and a long walk. If you like the
Beatles' songs, please visit me at the kennel and we'll sing 'Hey Dude' as we walk.

Morgan
I'm Morgan - a good solid name that fits me. I'm a medium brindle with a
dark mask over my nose and cheeks that enhances my overall good looks.
Rather fetching, I've been told. Unlike Lennon, I did not give the turnout
lady a hard time this morning. She led me into the runs to sprint with
another grey and it felt so good to run just for pleasure. When I was returned to
my 'condo' I was given cuddles, a biscuit, and my rugs were arranged just
the way I like them. I guess the turnout lady really liked me.
Like most greyhounds, I have a gentle disposition, just looking for
that special someone to rescue me and take me home.

Depp
If you like large red males, you'd better visit me the kennel soon because I will
be snapped up quickly. My name is Depp. I have an elegant needle nose -
for which we greyhounds are famous - and warm brown eyes.
The turnout lady told me I was very handsome with a sweet disposition.
I like people, love to play with toys, and enjoy exploring. Some would say
I'm nosey as I like to know what's going on and will stick my needle
nose into your business. Hey, if I'm going to be a member of your family,
I need to know the latest, right? While a little bouncy when
first let out of my cage, I mellow out quickly and walk well on the leash.
As I strut my stuff on our walks, heads will turn, and you'll be so
proud to be the caretaker of a fabulous greyhound.

Flash
Hola Tucson. I'm a large black male with a smattering of white on my chest
and they call me Flash. I have a soft fuzzy coat, love to be petted, and
give kisses, but only to those who treat me gently. I'm a little shy so I need
a human companion that will patiently teach me everything a greyhound needs
to know about living in a home. I've heard that being the family companion
comes with many benefits including squeaky toys and plush doggie beds -
wow - I can't wait. While shy, I'm no dummy, so I will quickly learn

I'm a cute and impish small red girl and my name is Irish, but you can skip the Guinness.
I'm a little skittish right now because I'm a new arrival and feel a little
insecure as I've yet to learn the ropes at the kennel. I like people that
are kind and gentle, and tend to cling to the volunteers because I crave
affection and they give me lots of love. My kennel mates tell me "just
relax Irish, all will be well," so I think in a week or two I will
settle down and become more independent. I'm looking for a home where
I will be given lots of affection and gently taught the ways of home living.

I'm a handsome energetic fellow that would really enjoy running
at a safe doggie park with other big dogs. As my racing days are over,
I will relish running for sheer pleasure, or just rolling on the
grass or sand at the doggie park, or in your back yard. Under your guidance
I will learn not to run in the house, not to shred magazines, and not
to drink out of the toilet if you happen to leave the seat up and the bathroom door open!

I'm Star, a small white and brindle hound, also new to the kennel.
The turnout lady this morning said I was gorgeous with a sweet,
gentle disposition. I am on the quiet side, maybe because everything
is so new to me, but I'm no drama queen. I enjoy running with a buddy
in the sprint runs, and then taking a nap after breakfast.
I warm up to people quickly who stroke my ears and tell me I'm beautiful -
I didn't hear much of that during my racing days. I hope to meet a

Whisper
Whisper sweet nothings in my ear and I'm yours. I'm a red, medium-size greyhound and they call me
Whisper. I'm playful and affectionate, but not boisterous. I have the gift of patience.
The volunteer this morning had trouble placing the leash collar over my nose to take me out
to the sprint run. I said to myself, self, this chick is a little out of it, give her
time and she'll get it. And she did. So once leashed and set free in the sprint area,
I ran with a buddie, had a great time, and then the volunteer returned me to my condo,
which was meticulously clean, and gave me a biscuit as a snack before breakfast.
I would like to be adopted by some wonderful person that treats me with kindness
and understands that I've never seen a home, much less lived in one. But the kennel
grapevine tells me that there are people out there just waiting to adopt a sweet
lovable greyhound like me.
