Herbert

I’m Herbert. Recently rescued, I’ve just moved into a foster home – more on that soon. I’m a medium-size, handsome hound that’s in good shape with a rich red coat and ears that flop forward – so adorable. I’m pretty laid back and walk well on a leash. I’m easy to handle and enjoy being around people and other greys. If you’re looking for a furry companion that yearns to be a family member, I’m your guy. ADOPT ME!

Roxy

This isn't one of our dogs, but that doesn't mean she doesn't need someone to love her! Roxy is a greyhound cross (probably with a boxer or Great Dane) who lives at the Santa Cruz Humane Society. We're told she's a sweet, loving girl who walks well on a leash and interacts well with children and animals.

For more information on Roxy, please see her listing on Petfinder, or contact the Santa Cruz Humane Society at 520-287-5654.

Lulu

My name is Lulu. My stint as a racer is finally over. I’m looking for a home with people that think greyhounds "rule." I consider myself a typical greyhound: smart, inquisitive, and affectionate and I yearn to join a family that will take good care of me. A long leisurely daily walk in the cool hours, or a romp at a safe doggie park a couple of mornings a week is all that I need to maintain my sleek figure. The turnout volunteer at the kennel this morning said, "You are one gorgeous dark brindle girl with a sweet disposition and whoever adopts you will be one lucky duck." I didn’t know ducks adopted greys, but if there is a duck out there that agrees greyhounds "rule" and they don’t feed me duck food, please ADOPT ME!

Alise

If you have a hankering for a medium-size beige/brindle dog, and prefer females, you’re on the right page. My name is Alise. The volunteer this morning told me that I had a sweet nature and a gentle spirit. I guess those are good things, right? I’m also new to the kennel and, so far, things are going very well. Loads of kennel mates so the gossip flows constantly. But integrity dictates that I don’t pass on any stories. The volunteers take good care of us but I’m longing to find a family to call my own. I’m an affectionate, gentle pooch that would do well with another dog for canine companionship. I haven’t been cat tested – not even sure what a cat is – so if you have cats, you need to check the website to see my results. ADOPT ME!

Boogity

FOSTER UPDATE: Boogity (aka Boo Radley) is sweet boy who loves to give kisses but may be a little hesitant to receive them. He likes his quiet time, happily goes on walks, comes when called and uses the doggie door. If you are a Star Wars fan, Boo is the Wookie for you. He does the Chewbacca talk when he has a request. If you prefer a less boisterous, somewhat independent dog, Boo fits the bill. He would do best in a home with no young kids (teenagers are ok) and one or two other dogs.

Donny

Hello! My name is Donny and "Don't worry, be happy" is my motto. Boisterous and rambunctious are just a few of the words I've been called. I don't know what they mean but I do know that life is an adventure and I'm going to enjoy every minute of it. I'd like a house with a big yard where I can run and play and then a nice comfy spot inside where I can nap and recharge my batteries. Come see me at Petsmart some weekend or at my foster mom's home.

FOSTER UPDATE: Donny is a good-natured, playful boy who is a joy to be around. He'll need some room to run or trips to the dog park, someone who'll play with him and someone who'll shower him with love and affection. He'll do fine with another dog or two, but I also think he'll be okay by himself provided he gets all the attention he craves.

Jay

FOSTER UDPATE: Jay is doing great, he's a high energy greyhound who always looking to see what mischief he can find. He loves toys (the squeakier the better) and he's very chatty, we decided the sea lion noise he makes is Tibetan throat singing and he now does it all the time, this has earned him the nickname Lama Jay. He's such a goof, very clumsy, very underfoot, very affectionate, likes to steal anything he can get his mouth on (even if it in my hand) and just when you start to get frustrated with him he comes up and put his head in your hands and stares up at you with these deep brown eyes and all is forgiven. Jay loves everyone he meets but if there is a man in the house, he will become his person. He loves to have his head held, give kisses and lean on someone. He would be a great dog for someone who want a more active greyhound. Jay's a big love bug with a lot of personality.

Fiona

Fiona isn't a purebred, but she might have a trace of greyhound in her genes. Fiona has had a tough life, but she's now in foster care learning to trust humans and get along in a home for the first time in her life. She's also healing up from some medical issues that shouldn't affect her quality of life.

FOSTER UPDATE: Fiona has come a long way since I have had her. She is learning to trust people as well as other animals. Her personality has shown in the last few weeks to be a care-free, fun-loving, affectionate girl. She would love a home with people who are willing to be patient while she continues to learn the ropes of a care-free forever home life.

Amado

If you melt at the sight of large brown/brindle greyhounds, then you will be a puddle when you meet me. My name is Amado and I’m a new arrival at the kennel. I’m easy going, love people, and appreciate a gentle hand and soft voice. Now that I’m retired, I’m looking forward to meeting that special someone who will take me home, lavish me with affection, and let me lounge on a couch of my own. Well, O.K., I’m willing to share your couch, or your bed, I’m open to negotiation. ADOPT ME!

Finn

My name is Finn. No, I’m not related to Huckleberry – wrong species. I’m a large white/brindle male goof ball that is looking forward to the easy life. I know nothing of home living, other than what I’ve heard from my kennel mates, but I know for sure that I would love to be in a permanent home with people that care about me. I’m getting used to affection from the volunteers and boy, do I like it. I’m smart, so I will quickly learn not to chew what is yours, and chew only what is mine. I guess that’s loads of soft squeaky toys and Nylabones, right? ADOPT ME!

I’m not sure how many puppies I’ve had, but I’m done. My name is Princess. Don’t worry, I’m not that type of princess. Boone

I’m a large, black male called Boone. A sturdy name that suits a dignified guy like me.

My kennel mates tell me that my stay here is temporary as a family will take me into their home and I will be their fur kid. That means I can look forward to a home of my own, loads of cuddles, plush doggie beds, good food, and lots of toys. It just takes a little while for that special person to connect with me and then they can’t live without me. Yea, I’m all over that. ADOPT ME!

Casey

I’m Casey, a large, black male that’s recently retired from the racing circuit. I hope that someone will now take me home and make me their treasured fur companion. If that’s what retirement is all about, I’d better pull my application for the position of security pooch at a local storage company. Don’t think I would have been considered anyway because we greys don’t have aggressive natures. Instead, I’ll wait for that special someone to take me home. ADOPT ME!

Kennel Update: Casey is a gentle, sweet grey. He walks well on a leash and loves ear rubs!

Tweed

I'm so gorgeous that you might be tempted to display me on your marble table in the foyer. I'm a male amber brindle with exquisite markings. They call me Tweed. I'm easy to handle, enjoy being around people, and get along well with my new kennel mates. Life is certainly looking up for this handsome boy. But I'm ready to exchange kennel rugs for a plush doggie bed, and a cage for a home that has many rooms I can explore at leisure and find my own special place to sleep. I suspect that may be your bedroom but, don't worry, I don't snore. You don't mind sharing, right?

Olivia

Olivia is a beautiful red girl who has been returned to AGR because of issues with another dog in the household. She's been in a home for a couple of years now and is very adapted to home life. She'd be an excellent dog for the first time greyhound owner.

FOSTER UPDATE: Olivia is very dog-friendly and loves to play. She especially enjoys other greyhounds. She walks perfectly on leash and loves riding in the car with the windows down. Olivia is a bit shy about meeting new men, but is OK once she gets to know them.

Depp

Depp is a gorgeous red boy who has been returned to AGR through no fault of his own. He's a friendly, outgoing boy with a great personality. He's had home experience and is ready to find his forever family.

FOSTER UPDATE: Depp (Sandy as he prefers to be called) is a good natured large fawn boy. He is super affectionate and loves to spend time with his people. He currently lives with 9 other dogs one of whom is a scottie and does well. He does not care for chihuahuas (especially the sneaky, yappy kind). He notices rabbits on walks but responds to the command leave it. He would do well in any home as long as there are other dogs or his people are home a good part of the day. He is just a big sweetie who will reward you with love and devotion.

Dixie

If you’re looking for a dazzling female greyhound that’s also in good shape, check me out. I’m a white, medium-size female with brindle patches called Dixie. One thing that distinguishes me from my kennel mates is that I’m a leaper. This morning, while in the sprint run, I discovered that I can jump in the air from a standing position. Practically speaking, I’m good on a leash, socialized as far as people and other greys, and just need someone to take me home and love me. ADOPT ME! Foster Update coming soon!
