Addie 2

Born: Apr/2009
Color: Brindle
Gender: Female
Housing: Foster
Cats: Yes
Small Dogs: Yes
Status: ADOPTED!
FOSTER UPDATE: Addie is a sweet natured girl whose right hock was severely injured in February 2011. She has recovered, but her medical situation will require regular monitoring. Addie is extremely shy, skittish to noise and scared if someone – male or female - moves directly toward her. When she’s comfortable that she can trust you, she will gladly accept belly rubs and other types of affection. Addie needs to live with another greyhound and an adopter who is very greyhound savvy to help Addie build confidence. Addie is a collector and her foster family frequently finds their ‘stuff’ along with toys in Addie’s pile in the back yard. Addie rides well in the car, barks very little, is house trained, walks well on the leash, and has shown no negative reaction to any foods. She responds to her name and the command ‘no.’ For the right adopters, Addie will make a sweet addition to the family. She’s extremely cute, yearns to be loved, and, once she trusts you, she will mature into a confident lovable fur companion.

Rascal

Born: Jan/2004
Color: White Dalmation mix
Gender: Male
Housing: Foster
Cats: Yes
Small Dogs: Yes
Status: ADOPTED!
FOSTER UPDATE: The foster Dad reports, “Rascal is cute and cuddly and just yearns to be wanted.” Rascal is well behaved in the home, not crated, house trained, likes people and other dogs, and can live harmoniously with small dogs and cats. He doesn’t get anxious if he’s left alone at home for a while, but he’s not fond of the vacuum when it’s in motion. Rascal is great on the leash, barks very little, and loves car rides. Rascal knows his name, comes when called and responds to several commands. Rascal eats well and prefers a little garlic powder sprinkled over his daily chow. We suspect he was an Italian greyhound in another life. Rascal is a great dog familiar with the rules of home living, just waiting for that special someone to scoop him up.  Rascal deserves to live with a new family that will care for him and recognize that he is one precious love bug.

Honey

Born: Jan/2007
Color: Fawn Grey/Lab mix
Gender: Female
Housing: Kennel
Cats: Yes
Small Dogs: Yes
Status: ADOPTED!
FOSTER UPDATE: Honey enjoys the companionship of people and other dogs. Her fosters have left Honey alone with their other dogs occasionally for about six hours with no problems. Honey is a healthy, assertive dog that shows no fear of loud or unusual noises. She will not allow other dogs to push her around but she is not aggressive. She shows an interest in cats but backs down once she hears that familiar feline ‘hiss.’ Honey is an explorer. As there is no longer a Queen of Spain to front Honey’s high seas adventures, Honey needs a block wall or secure rock-fence base to keep her in the yard and prevent her from rearrange the landscaping to create an escape route. Honey loves car rides, walks and the doggie park. She barks very little and is house trained. Honey likes to doze on the couch, another dog’s bed or in her crate with the door open. This is one cute bundle of affection that needs an adopter who appreciates Honey kisses.

Ripple

Born: Nov/2003
Color: Brindle
Gender: Female
Housing: Foster
Cats: No
Small Dogs: No
Status: ADOPTED!
I’m so disappointed that nobody has selected me yet as his or her permanent fur companion. My foster Mom says, “Ripple, don’t worry. A special family will come along for you soon.” I asked her, “Is that a short soon or a long soon ‘cos my self-esteem is getting pretty shaky.” I long for a doggie bed that’s all mine and someone who gives me lots of physical affection. Hint: I never tire of having my ears scratched. As a former brood mamma, I think I have a paw up over my competition. Mature females make better roommates. I’m a nurturing greyhound that checks the rest of the pack to make sure all is well. I have impeccable house manners. Even after several litters, I’m in fantastic shape: no nips, tucks or botox here! If you’re seeking a sweet, loyal companion, I’m the gal for you.

Pedro

Born: Apr/2007
Color: Brindle
Gender: Male
Housing: Foster
Cats: Yes
Small Dogs: Yes
Status: ADOPTED!
Hi, I’m Pedro. I’m a medium size brindle boy that loves to chase the volunteers around the exercise yard. I bob and twist, dodge and weave, and skid to a stop so fast that red smoke shoots out of my toenails. If you’re buying any of this, you may be too gullible to live with a greyhound - HA! Just a little doggie humor. I look forward to sharing my life with people who adore greyhounds and want an affectionate scamp like me in their lives. I’m not a demanding fella. I just need premium chow, many toys, daily walks, and a never-ending supply of hugs and kisses. You can do that, right?  I’ll keep my cell phone charged, waiting for your call.

Jay

Born: Aug/2006
Color: Brindle
Gender: Male
Housing: Foster
Cats: No
Small Dogs: No
Status: ADOPTED!
FOSTER UPDATE: My name is Jay. I am five years old and I know my name. I am a mellow, happy boy, totally house-trained, and never once had an accident in the house. I like to hang out in the same room as my foster-family, and will follow them around if they change rooms. I love to play with stuffed squeaky toys, and can throw them and catch them in mid-air all by myself.  My foster-sister and foster-brother, Maureen and Cedar, just taught me how to jump on the bed, which is quite a relaxing place to take a nap or play with my toys. I really like pieces of roasted chicken and egg white scrambled eggs, but I’m sure I will like whatever doggie healthy homemade treats you make for me.  As I learn new things about home living, my bio will be updated one more time, so please keep checking in on me.

Emma

Born: Aug/2008
Color: Black
Gender: Female
Housing: Foster
Cats: N/A
Small Dogs: N/A
Status: ADOPTED!
I’m a sleek jet arrow called Emma. I can slice my way through the exercise yard without making contact with anything but air. I look awesome in motion. I’m a petite female that’s a little shy and needs some space to adjust to the world outside of racing. I really like people and enjoy one-on-one attention. Once my confidence improves, I will feel more comfortable meeting groups of people. Until then, I will probably hide behind you for safety if I feel a little overwhelmed. I like to be petted and know that I would enjoy early morning strolls or romps in a safe doggie park with my special person. I’m now in foster care learning home etiquette. For a greyhound, that’s a no brainer! If you want to add to your family, don’t forget to visit with me so that I can interview you in person!

Dinah

Born: Jan/2007
Color: Red Fawn
Gender: Female
Housing: Foster
Cats: No
Small Dogs: With Work
Status: ADOPTED!
FOSTER UPDATE: Dinah LOVES KIDS! She watches Sponge Bob with two friends ages two and four. Sometimes she can be overly exuberant with small children so supervision is recommended. Extremely inquisitive, Dinah loves to know what’s going on. Once her curiosity is satisfied, she’ll turn her attention to her favorite game: tossing stuffed toys. Dinah is a faster learner and seems to enjoy learning behavior commands: ‘come,’ ‘wait,’ ‘stand,’ ‘leave it,’ and ‘on by.’  She knows her name and comes when called 80% of the time.  Dinah enjoys the company of other large dogs. She has a moderately high prey drive so birds, cats, overly playful puppies and small pocket dogs are probably to be avoided.  Dinah is fearless and nothing seems to bother her. She is well behaved in the home and practically house trained. When presented with a crate, Dinah goes into a total panic and she appears to be claustrophobic so she is not crated.

Zeus

Born: Mar/2003
Color: Black
Gender: Male
Housing: Foster
Cats: Yes
Small Dogs: Yes
Status: ADOPTED!
FOSTER UPDATE: Zeus is a gentle giant. He enjoys his morning romp with the kitties and is discovering the joy of playing with toys. Zeus returned to AGR, through no fault of his own, after living in a home for two years. He needs a new home where he is loved, secure and cared for. He eats like a perfect gentleman without any food aggression. Zeus has discovered that grooming feels fabulous. He responds instantly to the command ‘No.’ Zeus has started to lean against his foster guardians and has no fear of men as he greeted his foster Dad as if they were long-lost buddies. Zeus has no clue how to jump into the back of an SUV so he needs a hoist, but once in, he enjoys riding in the car. He does need a little work with pulling on the leash on his daily walks. Zeus needs a second chance for happiness in a home that appreciates him. He would do well with another dog for companionship.

Loven

Born: Aug/2007
Color: Brindle
Gender: Female
Housing: Foster
Cats: No
Small Dogs: N/A
Status: ADOPTED!
FOSTER UPDATE: Loven is a healthy, affectionate love bug that will steal your heart, so says her former foster Mom. Loven was relocated solely because she thought the family cat was the lunch entrée so a home with cats may not be wise. Loven is not shy with people, can be left alone for a couple of hours without getting anxious, has no fear of unusual or loud noises, and barks very little. She enjoys her car rides, is housetrained without a doggie door, and walks well on the leash. Loven is not crated, but she does enjoy sleeping in her crate at night with the door open. Loven is used to being groomed and having her ears cleaned. She knows the commands, leave it and come. She also knows her name and will come when called – if she’s in the mood!

Blair

Born: Jun/2007
Color: Black
Gender: Male
Housing: Foster
Cats: No
Small Dogs: N/A
Status: ADOPTED!
FOSTER UPDATE: Blair is a healthy, outgoing boy with a loving temperament. He is house trained using a doggie door. He lives with three other dogs and shows no sign of anxiety when left alone for a while. Blair is getting used to the noise of the vacuum but would sure like to know where that darned thunder comes from. If the car door is open, Blair will immediately jump in: he’s offered to drive but his foster guardians tell him he has to wait until he gets his license. Blair only barks when he greets people coming into the home. As he has impeccable house manners, Blair is not crated. He has a cast iron stomach and if it smells like food, Blair will eat it. A good walker on the leash, Blair knows that he is not a sled dog so he doesn’t pull. He knows and responds to his name and the commands: come, wait, and tst. Blair will kiss you or goose you, depending on what part of your anatomy is closest.

Torque

Born: Jan/2006
Color: Brindle
Gender: Male
Housing: Foster
Cats: No
Small Dogs: N/A
Status: ADOPTED!
FOSTER UDPATE: Torque is a beautiful boy and a joy to have around, says his foster mom. He’s healthy, friendly with everyone and loves affection. Torque scurries away from sudden unfamiliar noises, but his natural curiosity sends him back to investigate. He is a sensitive dog so a gentle ‘eh eh’ is all that is needed for correction. If Torque is suddenly awakened from sleep, he sometimes barks or snaps at the air. Torque can be left alone for a while without getting anxious. He is well behaved in the home and is not crated, but a baby gate is used as necessary to restrict access. Torque barks at cats who cheekily saunter through his yard, or if someone comes to the door, but it’s not excessive. He is house trained without a doggie door, enjoys car rides and is leash trained. Torque accepts grooming, knows his name, and responds to ‘wait’  ‘come’ and ‘okay.’ His favorite pastime is goosing humans!

Vixen

Born: Aug/2006
Race name: fka Tinky Winky
Color: Black and white
Gender: Female
Housing: Foster
Cats: With Work
Small Dogs: With Work
Status: ADOPTED!
Hi, my name is Vixen and I am one awesome dog.  They named me Tinky Winky but that name just doesn't do me justice!  I've learned to sit, down (lay), go outside, go to bed, wait, stop, and heel.  I love to play with my toys and those belly rubs send me over the moon!  I also know how to use my puppy-dog eyes to get some treats.  Getting pampered at "spa-days" are my favorite.
I have been well taken care of in a home for the last 1.5 years, but now I would like to find a home where I have a playmate or someone home most of the day.  I am tolerant of cats and ferrets, and do well with kids and other dogs at the dog park.  I am also crate-trained and dog-door trained.  Told ya I'm awesome!  My dog bed, toys, crate, food, and all my doggie stuff are coming with me - just need to find a place to go...if I use my puppy-dog eyes on you, would you take me home?

Berkley

Born: Jan/2008
Color: White and Fawn
Gender: Male
Housing: Foster
Cats: Yes
Small Dogs: Yes
Status: ADOPTED!
My name is Berkley. I’m a large red and white mush ball of a guy with a thick fur coat, soft as a rabbit, just made for petting. I’m a tail-wagging affectionate boy that will bark at times to get your full attention. Once you wrap your arms around my neck, give me a big hug and a kiss on the nose, I melt. Cuddles are so awesome. Every night, as I drift off to sleep, I begin to dream of a wonderful future. You want to adopt a fabulous retired racing greyhound for your family. I’m a retired racer looking for a fabulous family. You browse the AGR website and see a picture of this handsome dude – me – and you know that you can’t live one more day without Berkley. We meet, fall in love, and I’m now the family’s treasured fur companion. Please make my dream a reality - I can move in any time!

Titan

Born: Jan/2008
Race name: Ahk Titan
Color: Black
Gender: Male
Housing: Foster
Cats: No
Small Dogs: No
Weight: 80
Status: ADOPTED!
Titan's a little confused - what happened to his dog bed? He had a home, but now he's at a different place. He's wondering when he will get to lay on a soft dog bed again. At the least, when will he be back in a home. Titan has gone through this transition with a great attitude - he had a blast meeting people and other dogs at the Bookman's event. Titan wasn't shy and introduced himself to the people at Bookman's for some petting. If only they would take him home!  For now, Titan will patiently wait for the day his dog bed reappears and he gets to stay with it forever.

FOSTER UPDATE: Titan is such a happy dog!  He always has a smile and greets you with his happy dance when you get home.  Titan is always in a good mood and can entertain himself with his toys.  He loves to toss and squeak those squeakies!  Titan is house-broken without a dog door and has not had any accidents in the house.

Titan is an independent guy and wouldn’t mind being the only dog in the house – more attention for him!  He was the only dog in a previous foster home.  Titan currently lives with 3 other greyhounds in his foster home and is getting along great with everyone.

Skylar

Born: May/2006
Color: Fawn
Gender: Male
Housing: Foster
Cats: No
Small Dogs: No
Status: ADOPTED!
FOSTER UPDATE: Skylar is a little aloof but is slowly coming around. He tends to be shy, more around men than women, and is definitely not an Alpha dog. Skylar gets along well with his two greyhound roommates and seems to have bonded with the other non-Alpha hound. Skylar would flourish in a home with another dog for companionship. The only loud noise that seems to bother him is that dratted vacuum. Skylar travels well in the car and only barks outside when other neighborhood dogs are barking. He is slowly adjusting to being left alone for about six hours a day, but his fosters recommend a doggie door. Skylar is not crated, eats well, tolerates grooming and is healthy. He loves his walks and is well behaved on the leash. He is still in training to respond to basic commands. Skylar is indifferent to small dogs at tabling but is definitely interested in them on his walks.

Memory

Born: Mar/2007
Color: Red
Gender: Male
Housing: Kennel
Cats: No
Small Dogs: N/A
Status: ADOPTED!
Greetings Southern Arizona. My name is Walker, and I do that very well. No pulling or straining on the leash from this big boy, so I’m easy to handle when you and I meander around the desert together. I’m a handsome devil with a white face and a red coat with a smattering of black overlay. I have a high prey drive, so no cats or small dogs for me, but I love being around people; I know who dishes out the grub, no flies on this boy. I get along with other dogs and tolerate crating well for a couple of hours. I’m proud to report that I’ve had no ‘accidents’ in my rehab kennel and I’m fully recovered from my racing injury. I’m a playful, happy guy and sometimes I enjoy a good bark; however, when I hear ‘knock it off,’ I quit barking immediately. I know who the Alpha is in these digs, and it ain’t me!

Karla

Born: Aug/2004
Color: Red and White
Gender: Male
Housing: Foster
Cats: No
Small Dogs: N/A
Status: ADOPTED!
Kevin is 6-l/2 and was adopted in 2008. He lived with a family for three years. As sometimes happens, the needs of the family changed and, as Kevin’s needs were not being met, the family returned Kevin to AGR to find him a more suitable home. Kevin is now in foster care. He has a nice personality and gets along well with other dogs and children. His cat status, however, is unknown. As Kevin has plenty of home living experience, he would make a great fur companion for a first-time adopter. If you’re thinking of giving your sweetheart, or yourself, a wonderful Valentine’s gift, Kevin might just be the ticket!

Yuma

Born: Oct/2007
Color: Black
Gender: Female
Housing: Kennel
Cats: Yes
Small Dogs: Yes
Status: ADOPTED!
Hi everyone, I’m Pebbles, a medium-size black honey bun of a gal that’s just moved into the Greyt Hacienda kennel. When I want attention, I will chatter and whine a little and the volunteers come running to check on me – works every time. I’m a happy girl with an active tail that rapidly whooshes back and forth when someone talks to me, so I’m sure some volunteers have received an affectionate tail lashing. I’ve explored the outside run area and discovered something called a toy. I sniffed it, but it didn’t move. I nudged it with my nose, and it moved a little. I just don’t get it, what am I supposed to do with this thing? Not to worry, because Liz told me that she would teach me how to play in the morning when she comes to the kennel. My alarm is set for 8:00 a.m. so if Liz is late, I will be sure to whine and chatter to get her attention.

Iris

Born: May/2009
Color: Black
Gender: Female
Housing: Kennel
Cats: N/A
Small Dogs: N/A
Status: ADOPTED!
I’m not interested in technology; I just want to be adored. My name is Iris. I’m a small, black female that believes basic black deserves a strand of pearls to enhance my elegant fur coat. I’m a social girl that loves affection and I’m a tail wager. If you have to attend cocktail parties that, let’s face it, can sometimes be a bore, you will be the topic of conversation when you take me along wearing my pearl necklace. Instead of mundane chitchat, once you and I arrive, the conversation will perk up and it will be all about me. I will be the ambassador to assure the guests that we greys make fabulous pets once retired from the track. If my potential adopter lives in Beverly Hills, California, I understand that you might want to deck me out in diamonds but, frankly, I prefer pearls. Truth be told, I just need a loving family that will treasure me. Forget the pearls!

Ty

Born: Dec/2008
Color: Black
Gender: Male
Housing: Foster
Cats: Yes
Small Dogs: Yes
Status: ADOPTED!
Hi, I’m Ty. I’m an affectionate bundle of fun that bounces and dances now that my broken leg has mended and I’m through with rehab. I never raced, so I think perhaps that I broke my leg while in training to become a racer.  I love toys, treats and kisses. I also like to lean up against you so that you can pet me. I’ve never met a cat or small dog, so I don’t know how well we’d get along. I’ve been blind since birth in my right eye, but it doesn’t stop me having fun and wanting to cuddle with you when you watch the nightly news.  As I’m only two, large doggie toys that squeak when I shake ‘em and make ‘em quake, would be awesome.

Regina

Born: Dec/2007
Color: Black
Gender: Female
Housing: Foster
Cats: Yes
Small Dogs: Yes
Status: ADOPTED!
My name is Regina, but I would like to be called Gina. I’m a small, black girl that’s very cute, but I’m not as confident as my new kennel mates. While I get along well with people and other greyhounds, I’m a little shy and need lots of gentle encouragement for my personality to really blossom. When I see people at the kennel, I stare at them intently, checking them out to see if this could be that special person that will take me home and love me. I know I will be an affectionate hound once I feel comfortable that someone wants me as their fur companion and will take good care of me. If I’m lucky, Angel Cheryl will find me a foster home where I can learn the joys of home living and receive lots of affection. This will help me feel more secure and I can learn to relax and play with toys, and then I’ll be a keeper, and ready to move in with you.

Lulubelle

Born: Aug/2008
Color: Brindle
Gender: Female
Housing: Foster
Cats: No
Small Dogs: N/A
Status: ADOPTED!
When I was just a pup in racing school, my trainer told me, “Lula Belle, when your racing days are over, some nice people will take you into their home and the only racing you’ll do will be around their back yard or at the doggie park.”  That sounded wonderful to me. Yes, I’m Lula Belle and I’m a retired racer. I’m a small dark brindle affectionate gal that gives kisses. I like people and I’m not the least bit shy. I’m living at the Greyt Hacienda transitional housing until that special someone comes along who falls in love with me, or before I move into foster care. I’m easy on the eye, I don’t take up much space, and I think I will make a great fur kid addition to your family. You could buy me a red bow for my collar and adopt me on Valentine’s Day. I would make the perfect gift!

Lily

Born: Dec/2007
Color: Fawn
Gender: Female
Housing: Foster
Cats: N/A
Small Dogs: N/A
Status: ADOPTED!
I’m Lily. Such a pretty name, I’d like to keep it. Recently retired from racing, I’m looking forward to living in a home where I’m free to wander in and out once I’ve learned the rules. I heard through the greytvine that someone once said that greyhounds are dumb dogs because all we do is run in a circle. What a nincompoop. Greyhounds are a smart breed that just needs training on home living - we pick it up like lightening striking the Catalina Mountains during a monsoon. In my dreams, I see several comfy doggie beds, a doggie dish filled with premium kibble, and a bag of marrowbones in the refrigerator with my name on it. YUM! If I could find the keys to Liz’s car, I could whip down the street and buy a squeaky toy to play with while waiting for your call. You will call, right?

Commander

Born: Jan/2009
Color: Black
Gender: Male
Housing: Foster
Cats: N/A
Small Dogs: N/A
Status: ADOPTED!
My name is Commander. I’m a black male, small, and rather lively, but not over the top. Like all retired racing greyhounds, I’m yearning for a family to love me and take me home. Until it’s my time to move in with the family of my choice, I entertain myself with my new IPod, thanks to Paco’s Mom Griseldis who rented me one for a month. So while Pebbles is busy whining for attention, I’m busy learning how to navigate my new toy, surfing the web, and sending emails to my pals. I’m so happy to find out that people in Tucson love us greyhounds because they know that we are sweet natured and gentle, and make great fur companions. Think how invaluable I will be to the family if one of the kids doesn’t understand an IPod application: I can serve as a tutor! I’m just waiting for my chance to show my skills and, in return, get loads of cuddles and praise for being such a good boy.

Sun

Born: Oct/2003
Color: Black
Gender: Female
Housing: Foster
Cats: Yes
Small Dogs: Yes
Status: ADOPTED!
A home in Arizona will suit me just fine because my name is Sun. I’m so excited because I’m going into foster in a couple of days to learn the profession of treasured family companion. While people have face book to keep in touch with friends, we greyhounds use Roo tail book to get the latest gossip. Former racer Beamer sent me a message recommending some things I ought not to do while living in a home. One of which was trying to drag the comforter off the bed and through the doggie door. This did not go over well with his new Mom. However, he also told me that living in a home was wonderful and I would quickly adjust to peoples’ routines and be rewarded with treats and kisses, long walks, and car rides, but I don’t get to drive!

Bonita

Born: Nov/2002
Color: Black
Gender: Female
Housing: Foster
Cats: Yes
Small Dogs: Yes
Status: ADOPTED!
How wonderful to see the sunshine everyday, no more muzzle and I can gossip with my kennel mates. My name is Bonita, but you could call me Bonny, like in the movie Gone with the Wind. When I was racing, I guess the wind was always in front of me and not behind me pushing me forward, so I was released from service ‘cos I just wasn’t fast enough. However, that’s O.K. because 2011 offers me new beginnings. I hope to find an adopter that adores greyhounds, especially a sleek black beauty like me, and can toss me a ball to chase and retrieve. I don’t need much wind to do that. I’m a regular pooch without a smattering of Diva, so I will blend into your family beautifully. However, unlike Sun, I prefer to lounge in the back of the car and let someone else do the driving. HA!
