Sky

Born: Apr/2007
Color: Fawn
Gender: Female
Housing: Foster
Cats: Yes
Small Dogs: Yes
Status: ADOPTED!
FOSTER UPDATE: Sky is respectful with children and smaller dogs, even the family parrot in her foster home. With new situations, initially Sky may be a little shy, but recovers well. She shows no fear or concern with loud or unusual noises. She’s a healthy, mellow dog that can be left alone for a short while without getting anxious. Sky barks occasionally if she sees other dogs and people around the property. She is housetrained using a doggie door, and she will also scratch at the door to be let out. Sky is not crated but restricted to the living and family rooms. She willingly jumps in and out of the car and loves her walks. Sky is learning the commands ‘off’ ‘watch out’ ‘come’ ‘no’ ‘leave it’ and ‘stay.’ This is a lovable girl that will lay her head in your lap and snuggle. Sky would probably be good with kids nine years and older.

Campi

Born: Feb/2008
Color: Blue Brindle
Gender: Female
Housing: Foster
Cats: Yes
Small Dogs: Yes
Status: ADOPTED!
FOSTER UPDATE: Campi is a healthy, laid-back dog. She has perfect house manners so training through crating is unnecessary. She has gorgeous amber eyes and an amazing overbite that gives her wondrous expressions. Campi enjoys having another dog as a companion. She spent a little time around cats and did just fine. Campi is not shy. She’s great with people and accepting of kids but unlikely to play with them. She can be left alone in the home without getting anxious or destructive. She knows how to use a doggie door and is not bothered by loud or unusual noises. Campi barks very little, loves her car rides and walks. She is being taught not to jump at the sound of the leash and knows the commands ‘no’ and ‘down.’ Camp knows her name but she doesn’t always come when called. Foster Mom says this dog is as sweet as they come!

Breeze

Born: Jun/2009
Color: Brindle
Gender: Male
Housing: Kennel
Cats: N/A
Small Dogs: N/A
Status: ADOPTED!
I’ll whirl and spin around your legs and a whoosh of air will lightly brush your skin. How ‘bout them bananas [sorry, don’t like apples.]  I’m Breeze, a small tan/brindle fella that hired Bat Man and Robin to find me the most suitable home in Southern Arizona where I can hang my leash. It’s not that I’m picky or an ego maniac, it’s just that I’m very selective. I bring to the table a handsome appearance and a playful and affectionate personality, however, I know zilch about home living, but I can learn ‘cos I’m one smart greyhound. When racing, I fathomed out PDQ that if I lagged behind and ran slower than my competition, I would quickly be tossed out and headed for an adoption group.  Hello!  It worked – HA! I’m looking forward to living in a home with people who will play with me. I’d like to try my paw at basketball – will you teach me?

Bandit 2

Born: Apr/2003
Color: White/Brindle
Gender: Male
Housing: Foster
Cats: Yes
Small Dogs: Yes
Status: ADOPTED!
My Mom and Dad are in the military. They are being deployed to the Middle East in early September and I can’t go with them. Sadly, I need to be re-homed. My name is Bandit. I never raced as I broke my leg in training when I was young, but I’m all healed now and healthy. I’m housetrained using a doggie door, but I will whimper if the door is closed and I need to go out. I’m in tiptop shape. Just had all my shots renewed and my teeth cleaned. I’m a Velcro dog that will follow you from room to room. I love to meet people and enjoy my ten-minute madness of playtime with older kids. I would prefer not to live with toddlers – too active, too grabby with the hands, and too noisy. I get along well with other dogs and I’m cat tolerant. I am an obedient dog that listens and follows most basic commands. A new home with another dog for companionship would be great.

Pete

Born: May/2008
Color: White/Brindle
Gender: Male
Housing: Foster
Cats: N/A
Small Dogs: N/A
Status: ADOPTED!
I’m a happy, white bouncy boy called Pete. As you can see, my white fur promises cool snow showers during an Arizona summer. Can I guarantee that?  No, of course I can’t. I’m a dog, not a marketing guru, but I can promise love and loyalty if you take me home. I’ve been taking courses as Pima College on Fur Companionship and I’m sure that I will ace the course. After all, most of it is common sense. I can’t imagine anything nicer than living with you, taking leisurely strolls during the cool hours when people will comment, ‘what a handsome, sweet boy.’ Yes, I’m a keeper.’ I’m a medium size hound that will fold up quite nicely into a small ball on your couch. I hope I go into foster care soon to learn about home living because then I’ll be one ripe greyhound ready for adoption. But if you want to home train me, log onto AGR’s website and contact the adoption director to let her know that you want to take me home.

Dan

Born: May/2008
Color: Red
Gender: Male
Housing: Foster
Cats: N/A
Small Dogs: N/A
Status: ADOPTED!

Daisy

Born: Jun/2009
Color: Black
Gender: Female
Housing: Kennel
Cats: N/A
Small Dogs: N/A
Status: ADOPTED!
Sing along with me here: ‘Daisy, Daisy, give me your answer, do. I’m half crazy over my love for you.’ If the question is, will you move into our home and be our fur companion, the answer is YES!  I’m an all black, small girl with a sweet disposition that’s very social. The Arizona summer heat prevents me from socializing outside, but I’ve heard that Tucson features jazz entertainment at several resorts during the evenings. Just up my alley. I already have a little black outfit. All I need is a string of pearls and I’m ready to step out and mingle. So if you’re a jazz fan, call my cell for a date. You may have to take a doggie bed with you ‘cos I’m not too adept at sitting like other dogs. We greys prefer to lounge sphinx style. If the resort refuses to let me in, just tell them I’m a reincarnation of your Aunty Mame. HA!

Dahlia

Born: Jul/2009
Color: Fawn
Gender: Female
Housing: Kennel
Cats: N/A
Small Dogs: N/A
Status: ADOPTED!
Small, playful and cute, that’s me. My name is Dahlia. I’m a young, red female greyhound with a white chest and black mask over my nose. I’m told I’m one good-looking hound and, frankly, I have to agree. I’m friendly and outgoing; not the least bit shy. I like people and enjoy being around other greyhounds. I hope to go into foster care to learn about home living, or you can snap me up and teach me the do’s and don’ts of how to behave in your home. A famous human once said, “I have a dream.” Guess what, I, too, have dreams. I dream of walks in the cool mornings, premium chow and tasty tit bits between meals, and doggie beds in each room so that I can be with you at all times. Once you meet me and hug me around the neck, I think my dreams will come true, ‘cos you’ll be hooked on me!

Kent

Born: Jan/2009
Color: Red
Gender: Male
Housing: Foster
Cats: No
Small Dogs: No
Status: ADOPTED!
FOSTER UPDATE: Kent is an exuberant greeter when his foster mom returns from work. He loves toys and, like his foster friend Reba, has his favorite. Kent is an affable, affectionate hound, not the least shy with people, and he is not bothered by loud noises.  He loves to ride in the car, standing the entire time, barks moderately, and enjoys his walks although he pulls on the leash. Kent is healthy, has a good appetite but does not care for raw veggies like his doggie roommates. His foster mom is currently working on house training, as she doesn’t have a doggie door. Kent is not crated. He is easy to handle when it’s time for grooming. He knows his name, comes when called, and obeys the commands, “Go make” and “Go lay down.” Kent is an easy dog and super enthusiastic about everything. Not to mention he’s handsome!

Gentry

Born: Aug/2007
Color: Black
Gender: Male
Housing: Foster
Cats: Yes
Small Dogs: Yes
Status: ADOPTED!
FOSTER UPDATE: Gentry enjoys interacting with people and knows everyone in the neighborhood. He will bark if he’s scared or wants his foster mom to get up promptly at 6:00 a.m. but he never barks at other dogs or kids. Gentry is not happy being left alone for too long. A home with another dog for companionship would be best or an adopter who is home full time. Since learning how to get in and out of the truck, Gentry loves to cruise. Leisurely strolls with plenty of ‘sniffing’ time is perfect for this gorgeous pooch that answers to his name and the commands ‘come’ and ‘leave it.’ Gentry is 95% house trained. If no one is in the room to let him out, he trots through the house until he finds someone. Such a smart greyhound! Gentry accepts involuntary crating for short periods. He loves playing with his toys and being around his people. He’s so easy to fall in love with – why don’t you meet him – call AGR for an appointment?

Roxy fka Brita

Born: Mar/2006
Color: Fawn
Gender: Female
Housing: Foster
Cats: Yes
Small Dogs: Yes
Status: ADOPTED!
FOSTER UPDATE: Due to a change in her current owner’s circumstances, Roxy fna Brita, is again available for adoption. Her owner will foster Roxy until a suitable placement is found. Roxy is healthy and energetic and likes to play. A high energy home with other dogs and children, eight years or older that will play with her, would be a perfect environment. Roxy is happiest when playing with other dogs and/or kids; she’s super social. Roxy is an independent love bug and seeks affection from everyone. She is cat tolerant IF the cat is assertive and hisses, swats, and stands its ground. Roxy is house-trained and will ‘needle nose’ her caregiver if she needs to go outside to go ‘potty.’ She is well behaved in the home and is not crated. Roxy’s shots are all current and shortly she will need a routine dental cleaning. Roxy is one sweet little girl with a happy, loving temperament that will blend nicely into an active family with other dogs and older kids.

Winston

Born: Jan/2009
Color: White with black spots
Gender: Male
Housing: Kennel
Cats: N/A
Small Dogs: N/A
Status: ADOPTED!
My name is Winston and my coloring is rather distinctive: white with black spots. Some uninitiated person could mistake me for a Dalmatian but not a true greyhound lover. I like to lean my head on your shoulder when you’re grooming or petting me. I really enjoy that one-on-one connection. I can ROO you awake in the mornings when I’m playing with my squeaky toys at 5:30 a.m. You’ll never miss that important morning meeting with me around. I’m sorta medium size and don’t take up much space when I’m curled up on a doggie bed or on the couch next to you. I’ve been trained to trot alongside you on our walks and not drag you through the wash on your belly if I spot something worth chasing. Course, there are always exceptions in life, don’t ya think – HA!

Rory

Born: Jan/2009
Color: White
Gender: Male
Housing: Foster
Cats: N/A
Small Dogs: N/A
Status: ADOPTED!
I’m a small, white male greyhound called Rory. My distinctive feature is the color of my ears; they’re a blend of black and copper, very fetching. I have a pleasant personality and I’m cute! What else do you need to know? Oh, do I chew stuff? Not sure. Never been in a home so maybe I could get hooked on one of your sandals, especially if you’re like Karyn and don’t put them away in the closet. But if that’s a no/no, you just gently give me a nudge and I’ll leave them alone. Instead, I’ll concentrate on tearing up the brown grocery bags that you shove alongside the refrigerator. I hear from other greys that this really gets folks going. They come home to find shredded grocery bags all over the floor and furniture in the living room. The resident greyhound, lounging on the couch, of course feigns ignorance. I’m with him HA!

Ginger fka Gum Drop

Born: Feb/2003
Color: Brindle
Gender: Female
Housing: Foster
Cats: No
Small Dogs: Yes
Status: ADOPTED!
FOSTER UPDATE: As the only pampered pooch for several years, due to a recent death in the family, Ginger needs a new home. She is a well-mannered greyhound that is leash trained, well behaved in the home, and is always sociable with humans and other dogs that she meets on her walks. She is house trained and will stand by the door to be let out. Ginger is an affectionate dog that enjoys being petted. She would do best in a home as the only dog. She is not cat tolerant but seems to get along with smaller dogs. Ginger is a mellow dog that doesn’t bark or cringe from loud noises, but she would prefer not to live in a home with small children due to the high activity level. Ginger’s former owners took exceptional care of this dog and, except for a little arthritis, that requires one pill a day, Ginger is healthy and current on her shots. She would be a great companion for a first-time greyhound owner whose home most of the time.

Bess

Born: Jul/2004
Color: Fawn
Gender: Female
Housing: Foster
Cats: Yes
Small Dogs: Yes
Status: ADOPTED!
My biography is coming soon!

Clark

Born: Jan/2006
Color: Fawn
Gender: Male
Housing: Foster
Cats: N/A
Small Dogs: Yes
Status: ADOPTED!
Clark is a five-year-old fawn male. He is seeking a new home because of his owner’s serious health condition. This is a tremendous heartache for the owner and his beloved greyhound companion. Clark is a loving, well-behaved dog that is house trained, loves his car rides, walks well on the leash and is good with other dogs, big and small. He has never seen a cat, and is a little timid with small children on first meeting if they rush toward him. Clark only barks when he wants to go outside to relieve himself. Clark is healthy and all his shots are current. He has no known food allergies. He is fed premium kibble with a few occasional people food tit bits. Clark knows his name and the command ‘heel’ for stop. Clark has always lived with someone who is home most of the time, so he needs a new home where someone is around a lot. Clark would make the perfect fur companion for a first-time greyhound owner.

Nina

Born: Dec/2007
Color: Brindle
Gender: Female
Housing: Foster
Cats: Yes
Small Dogs: Yes
Status: ADOPTED!
My biography is coming soon!

Washington (aka Washi)

Born: Nov/2008
Race name: Lake Washington
Color: Blue Fawn Brindle
Gender: Male
Housing: Foster
Cats: Yes
Small Dogs: Yes
Weight: 92
Status: ADOPTED!
Washington, aka Washi, is back in the AGR family due to no fault of his own. He has been with his adopters 6 years. He is seeking a family that appreciates that he is your typical, large, cuddle bear canine. He loves people, is very affectionate, and wants to be included in daily activities. He likes to be stroked and talked to... and a scratch on my hindquarters is a plus. Washi is one smart greyhound, loves car rides, enjoys walks, knows how to use a doggie door, and has great house manners.

Kim

Born: Jun/2004
Color: Brindle
Gender: Female
Housing: Foster
Cats: No
Small Dogs: No
Status: ADOPTED!
FOSTER UPDATE: To Kim, everyone is a friend. If her foster guardians lay on the floor, Kim will be right next to them. When they move from room to room, there’s Kim, right next to them with her head practically in their hands. She can be left alone for a few hours without any signs of anxiety. She is housetrained using a doggie door and not crated because she is well behaved in the home. Kim walks well on the leash, is good in the car, and knows her name. She knows the command ‘sit.’ Kim will focus on small dogs and may have a prey drive, but a quick verbal nudge will refocus her. Kim is frightened by unexpected loud bangs. She will bark a few times, then pant, and pace. When it’s time for the vacuum to make its entrance, Kim shoots through the doggie door. These reactions should abate over time as Kim becomes more acclimated to living in a home environment.

Henry

Born: Mar/2010
Color: Fawn
Gender: Male
Housing: Foster
Cats: Yes
Small Dogs: Yes
Status: ADOPTED!
My name is Henry. I’m a large blonde male greyhound that’s a little timid on first meeting but, once I’ve ‘sniffed’ you out, then we can shake paws and be best buds. I’m an easy-going fella and enjoy hands-on affection. I’m a good-looking hound but could use a day at a doggie spa – my coat is a gorgeous color so I know I’ll clean up well. However, my smile is picture perfect. My chompers are so clean that when I smile at you on our early morning walks, sunlight will bounce right off my teeth, so you’ll need to wear shades to protect your eyes HA! I like my raised doggie bed but I look forward to  a large, sumptuous doggie bed all my own that cuddles every curve of my body as I dream the night away. I’m not really picky about color, but if you could find one in turquoise or teal, that would be excellent.

Riley

Born: Jan/2009
Color: Black
Gender: Female
Housing: Foster
Cats: No
Small Dogs: No
Status: ADOPTED!
FOSTER UPDATE: Riley is an affectionate dog with a dash of sassy. She is at ease with both males and females - and likes children. Riley has learned to use a doggie door and can entertain herself with squeaky toys that she carries around the home in her mouth. She also enjoys cooling her tummy on the top step of the pool. Riley will growl or bark at other dogs if they approach her too quickly but she gets along well with her two greyhound roommates and two temporary greyhound visitors. Riley is a talker and whines when she sees other dogs across the street or behind fences. She is not the least shy and can handle being alone for a short while without becoming anxious. Unexpected and unfamiliar activity like a bouncing basketball or quick movements above or around her sometimes make her a little skittish. Riley has a high prey drive and cannot live with small dogs or cats.

Ozzy

Born: Jan/2002
Color: Fawn
Gender: Male
Housing: Foster
Cats: No
Small Dogs: No
Status: ADOPTED!
FOSTER UPDATE: Ozzie is a love bug; always has his head in someone’s lap and wants to be petted all the time. He is not shy and loves people. Although he cries when left alone, he is not destructive in the home. Tolerates the vacuum by thrusting his nose in the air and vacating the room!  Ozzie needs a little hoist to get him in the back of a car. He barks very little and is house trained using a doggie door. Ozzie is not a candidate for ‘The Biggest Loser’ because he’s not thrilled about daily walks. He will, however, allow gentle grooming. Ozzie knows his name and will come when called. He must find a home with Clementine because they’re like Mr. and Mrs. Ozzie has soft bunny type fur and is a complete love bug.

Niles

Born: Jul/2008
Color: Red Brindle
Gender: Male
Housing: Foster
Cats: Yes
Small Dogs: Yes
Status: ADOPTED!
FOSTER UPDATE: Niles is a sweet boy with a charming personality. He gets along famously with adults, children and other dogs. Well behaved in the home, Niles has not exhibited signs of separation anxiety when left alone for a couple of hours. Niles is fearless of unusual loud noises and is a born car traveler. He is the consummate communicator who barks, whines and howls; however, consistent ongoing gentle training will help Niles recognize when this behavior is appropriate—such as a burglar!  Niles is house trained but he really prefers to do his business on his walks. He would do best with a family that exercises early in the cool morning hours. Niles has advanced arthritis in his right rear leg. He may need to take daily medication. Therefore, Niles cannot run at the doggie park, is restricted to two short daily walks, and needs to be lifted in and out of the car. This beautiful boy needs someone that’s greyhound savvy with a big heart.

Martie

Born: Jun/2006
Color: Brindle
Gender: Female
Housing: Foster
Cats: Yes
Small Dogs: N/A
Status: ADOPTED!
FOSTER UPDATE: Martie is beginning to relax and become more comfortable in her foster home. She knows that she has to do her business outside and gets up consistently at 5:00 a.m. - just for that purpose. On two occasions, she has barked to go outside. She seems to prefer the company of women, does O.K. with men, but would not do well in a home with children.  Although Martie whines when the foster mom leaves the home, she is not destructive, and is realizing that the mom will return. She is a little fearful of the loud metal gate and perhaps the rolling trash can and vacuum, but her curiosity overrides her trepidation, as she will approach both with reassurance.  Martie is not crated because she is quiet and well mannered. She rides well in the car, has a good appetite, is healthy, and wags her tail when the martingale comes out. Martie has sensitive skin but accepts gentle grooming. She may not be small dog tolerant.

Lance

Born: Oct/2007
Race name: Stretch Armstrong
Color: Brindle
Gender: Male
Housing: Foster
Cats: Yes
Small Dogs: Yes
Status: ADOPTED!
Lance has returned to our family because his owner could no longer care for him due to a change in the owner's medical condition. Lance is a sweet older gentleman who probably needs the companionship of other hounds and an owner who is home most of the time. He gets along well with the other dogs, is not shy around people and not anxious if left alone for a few hours. Lance is good in the car and has excellent leash manners. Lance loves toys and happily plays alone when the other dogs are too busy to play with him. He has soulful eyes and a huge heart. We would like to get boy with a permanent family soon. Can that be you?

Heidi

Born: Nov/2010
Color: Brindle
Gender: Female
Housing: Foster
Cats: N/A
Small Dogs: N/A
Status: ADOPTED!
I’m a five-month-old brindle beauty in training to become a ballerina. I can leap through the air from the picnic table and, most of the time, miss landing on my foster Dad’s head, but not always! Hey, I’m a puppy; I just need more practice before I join the New York ballet. I’m house broken and get along O.K. with kids, eight years and older, but not the younger ones. I get a little too excited when I’m playing and sometimes I nip.  Puppy exuberance, don’t you know. I need a home where my people understand puppies, can keep up with me, teach me manners, and help me grow into a magnificent well-behaved greyhound. My natural beauty is a plus!

Canbe

Born: Jan/2009
Color: Black
Gender: Female
Housing: Foster
Cats: N/A
Small Dogs: N/A
Status: ADOPTED!
My biograpy is coming soon!

Caber

Born: Feb/2009
Color: Red Fawn
Gender: Male
Housing: Foster
Cats: N/A
Small Dogs: N/A
Status: ADOPTED!
I’m Caber. I’m a medium-size red male greyhound with a slender build.  I am thoroughly enjoying my retirement from racing and the volunteers say that I’m a little ‘frisky.’ Any greyhound that is retired will understand the urge to be ‘frisky.’ We worked our fur off seven days a week, eat doggie fast food, and retired without a pension, not even a paw watch! Can you imagine? However, I hear there are great opportunities ahead. Some nice family will see me on the website or perhaps at tabling at a local pet store. They will recognize that I’m a prince among greyhounds and fall in love with me. Once they’re hooked, I can ask for toys, doggie beds, and the chance to snooze on the couch with the person who has the remote and watch Sunday night football. I’m game if you are!

Bob

Born: May/2008
Color: White and Red
Gender: Male
Housing: Foster
Cats: N/A
Small Dogs: N/A
Status: ADOPTED!
FOSTER UPDATE: At age three, Bob, a 68 lb. bundle of affection is one handsome charmer with a passion for squeaky toys. Bob is a social hound and not shy around anyone, including children. He gets along with other dogs but has yet to meet a Feline Queen! Bob will follow his foster mom from room to room and - if she has the nerve to leave him in the house while she is working in the yard - he will whine and bark a little because of the separation. However, he spends six to seven hours a day at home alone with another dog for companionship while his foster mom is at work with no problem. Bob is courageous and undaunted by the vacuum or other loud or unusual noises. He loves riding in the car, barks very little, and is an enthusiastic walker that does better with a harness than a leash because he’s a persistent stopper/sniffer! Bob needs to become a permanent family member – could that be with you?
